Summary

In this episode of Weight Loss for Food-Lovers, Molly Zemek addresses how we should handle the desire to eat. Initially, Molly lays the foundation for understanding how our urges and desires can affect what and how we eat. She explains to the listener that the most beneficial thing to do, in regard to our desires and urges, is to become aware of our body’s response, and learn to allow the urge. We can become aware of our body’s response by paying attention to the thoughts and sense of immediacy, creating some separation between ourself and the physical urge that’s happening, and by saying to ourself, “This is not an emergency, this is not urgent.” The more we learn to become aware of our urges, and are able to slow down and acknowledge them, the easier it easy to allow the urge to be present, without giving into it. This is important because allowing an urge is different than resisting an urge. Molly explains all of this in detail, in order to show how important having full control over our urges and desires is in our weight loss journey.
